Michael Ivanov was born in 1949 in Sofia. He graduated from the University of Architecture in 1977 and from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1981. In 1983 he participated in a group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sofia. In 1984 he was awarded the Krastyo Sarafov First Prize for his painting "The Miracle"
In 1992 he received the title of Honored Artist of Bulgaria and in 1997 he was named a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. Ivanov has been a resident of Istanbul since 1985 and lives and works there (since 1989). He is recognized as one of the leading painters in Turkey and is celebrated for his colorful, impulsive art.
